The first annual Charleston Wizarding Weekend took place on October 22nd of 2022. This was a Harry Potter adjacent art focused event with wands, magical creatures, witchy crafts, and local camaraderie for a magical school that we totally made up. Our school has four unique houses and we even have a sorting quiz!
This free-to-attend event included activities, classes, and themed treats primarily on Capitol Street and the surrounding areas. There was an artisan market at the Capitol Market, as well as a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, free face painting, and live music.
The 2024 Charleston Wizarding Weekend will be our third year hosting this event. Over the years we have accomplished a lot!
- Developed an Appalachian wizarding school with 4 unique houses
- Over 20+ West Virginia artisan vendors whose table fees are free
- Hired a local artist to develop the pieces for our scavenger hunt creature collection.
- Provided three engaging and free “class” tables for kids that feature STEAM education.
- Hired local actors to play character roles they developed
- Screened free to attend films like Halloweentown
- Featured live music like the Almost Heaven Dulcimer Club
- Designed and printed our own annual newspaper
